JATCO’s cumulative global CVT production reaches 40 million units, Jatco CVT8 production also reaches 10 million units 2018-10-18

JATCO Ltd (President: Teruaki Nakatsuka, head office: Fuji city, Shizuoka, Japan, Capital JPY: 29.93 billion, hereinafter “JATCO”), a leading manufacturer of automatic transmissions (ATs, CVTs), has announced that global cumulative CVTs (Continuously Variable Transmissions) output reached 40 million units in April 2018. This result has been achieved in 20 years and nine months since beginning the production in 1997 and is the first time worldwide for a single CVT manufacturer to reach 40 million units. Additionally, JATCO attained global cumulative output of 10 million units of the Jatco CVT8 (adopted in mid and large-sized FF vehicles), one of its main products, in the same month, a level realized six years and one month since starting production in March 2012. This is JATCO’s third CVT model which reached 10 million units in cumulative production following JF011E and Jatco CVT7.

Since beginning production of the world’s first 2-liter-class steel belt CVT in 1997, JATCO has released various products and continued leading the industry as a CVT pioneer. To accommodate increasing global demand for CVTs with outstanding fuel efficiency, JATCO has been expanding global production, with output commencing in Mexico in November 2005, China in September 2009, and Thailand in July 2013. Production outside of Japan has contributed to 18 million units to the 40 million units in cumulative output. JATCO achieved 40 million units in two years since it reached 30 million in 2016, which is faster than the two years and four months needed to reach 30 million units from 20 million.

Jatco CVT8, of which cumulative production reached 10 million units, is rapidly increasing production volume and had output of 5 million units over the past two years. Its demand is growing. In addition to offering excellent fuel efficiency and driving performance, Jatco CVT8 is the only product worldwide with torque capacity which covers from 2.0 liters to 3.5 liters (large-sized vehicles). It is very well received in Japan as well as North America, China, and other markets.

JATCO is the only transmission manufacturer which offers a full line-up of CVTs from the one for minicars to 3.5-liter-class vehicles. It currently manufactures products at six locations with three in Japan and three in other countries. JATCO held a top global CVT share of 37% in 2017.
